LUVS Concert is June 22 in Moores Park!

luvsThe Lansing Unionized Vaudeville Spectacle (LUVS) will be performing again this year for the Summer Concert Series hosted by Lansing Parks and Recreation in Moores Park on Wednesday, June 22 from 7-9 pm.

Come out and break the attendance record from last year of 600+ people.  There will be limited parking available via the Moores Park Dam parking lot. Walk or bike to the event if you can! Parking will be available at St. Casimir Catholic Parish.

May Events

Friday, May 13th Middle Eastern Food Festival- until 8pm the St. Joseph Melkite Church, across the street from Moores at 725 W. Mt. Hope will be hosting their annual event serving baked kibbie, stuffed grape leaves, baklava and much more. I’ve never been, but I hear it’s delicious! More info here.

Saturday, May 14th Adopt-a-River– citywide event for volunteers to go out and clean up the Grand River. The BWL/Impression 5 organized event will start at I5 at 10am and wrap up with a free lunch and environmental fair. More info on that project here. Register to be part of that, or just go out on your own and clean up our section of the river in Moores Park!

Saturday, May 14th REACH Mad Hatter Tea Party– from 1-4pm our neighborhood art studio, REACH will be hosting a benefit with Alice in Wonderland themed characters serving tea and desserts, games, hat making and tea cup glazing. Saturday, May 14th Neighborhood Pride Week kicks off- events will be happening in neighborhoods throughout the city starting on the 14th and going through the 21st. The attached document has info about all the events that are part of that. There are two that MPNO will be participating in:

Wednesday, May 18th Love Lansing Celebration- from 5:30-8:30 at the Lansing Center, the city will celebrate neighborhoods and community leaders at this free event. We’ll have our display up with info on the neighborhood.

Thursday, May 19th Osband Orchard TruNeighbor Event– at 9am, city planning and TruGreen will unveil the new green space located  at 1845 Osband Ave which was the site of one of our neighborhood vacant house demolitions last year through the Land Bank. With input from the surrounding neighbors, this site has been turned into a small orchard with perennial flower beds. Join us to see the transformation or stop in anytime and check it out!

Thursday, May 26th Moores Monthly Meetup- from 5-7pm on the last Thursday of each month, neighbors are invited to meet at a local bar/restaurant for a casual, social event. It’s just drop in style to support a local business and give people an opportunity to meet new neighbors or catch up with old ones. This month, we’ll meet at Corey’s!

Lifeguards Needed for the Moores Park Pool


The parks department has some great activities planned for Moores Park Pool, but they need lifeguards! Moores Park Pool is supposed to be open every day from 12-4pm and 5-7pm starting June 13th. Below is information from the parks and rec. website. Please pass along to anyone who may be interested, so we can help keep Moores Park Pool open!! If you would like to apply, here’s the details:

LIFEGUARDS, ATTENDANTS & INSTRUCTORS
Must be able to swim and be at least 16 years old. American Redcross certification provided. Swim Instructors must have WSI certification. Locker Room Attendants must be at least 15 years old. Outdoor and Indoor Pools: Work June – August at our pools with testing, recertification and training beginning in May. Full or part time hours available. Easter Egg Hunt – Sat, March 19 – Moores Park

Easter Egg HuntCome to the Moores Park Easter Egg hunt this Saturday, March 19 from 10:30-11:30am! We have an egg hunt for the 0-4 year olds and one for 5-12 year olds. There’s also giveaways including two crayola activity bags, several large inflatable bunnies, and a nearly 2 lb. chocolate rabbit if you find the marked eggs. You can even meet and take a picture with the Easter Bunny!

Event Schedule
10:30am – Near the Moores Park Pavilion
10:45am – Easter bunny to arrive!
11:00am – Start of the 0-4 year old Egg Hunt
11:15am (or when little ones are done) – Start of 5-12 year old Egg hunt.
In case of inclement weather, we will reschedule for the following Sat., March 26 at 10:30am in Moores Park.
