Love Your Block Program (PhotoVoice Presentation August 17)

lansing-love-your-blockThe Love Your Block program is a service strategy to engage community members in revitalizing neighborhoods – one block at a time. Through this program the city of Lansing will provide mini-grants (up to $5,000) for neighborhood revitalization projects funded through the Cities of Service.

Learn more about the grant, and start a conversation about potential projects our neighborhood could apply for on August 17 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Casimir Church, 800 W. Barnes Ave. Lansing, MI 48910. Lansing Unionized Vaudeville Spectacle Concert at Moores Park – June 10

The first Parks & Rec “Concert in the Park” series is Moores Park featuring the Lansing Unionized Vaudeville Spectacle (LUVS): Wed., June 10 at 7pm!

Come out and enjoy good food, art activities, great music and of course great company! Good Truckin’ Diner will be selling food, 517 Shirts will be selling MPNO shirts, and the REACH Art Studio will be providing an awesome craft for the kids. Parks staff will be on hand with swimming registration cards so you can fill those out while you’re here and the Lansing Historical Society will be providing a history tour of the pool at 6:15pm so be sure to check that out!

Please note, parking is very limited at the park. Walking or biking is strongly encouraged. Overflow parking will be provided at St. Casimir Catholic Parish on Barnes Ave, just a short walk from the park

Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection May – Sept.

FREE service for Ingham County Residents: Household Hazardous Waste Collection, Thursdays from 2:00 – 6:00pm,  May – September 2015. Over the counter meds, mineral spirits, needles, and brake fluid are among the accepted materials taken.  Download the HHW flyer for a complete listing. This is at the Ingham County Health Department Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 5303 South Cedar Street, Lansing.

Parks & Rec. Plan Includes River Trail Extension from Moores Park

Every five years the City of Lansing approves a Master Plan for Parks & Recreation. There is a proposed River Trail Extension from Moores Park to Grand River Park in this plan. Download a copy of the 5-yr Parks & Rec. Plan 2015 – 2020. The programs and the potential spending for capital improvements to the city park systems will be reviewed at two upcoming meetings: The first one will be at the Informational Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 pm in the Clerk’s Room at the South Washington Armory, 2500 S. Washington Avenue, City Clerk Election Unit (rear entrance) – and the second one will be a Public Hearing before City Council on Monday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m.

Our neighborhood is represented by 4th Ward Council Member Jessica Yorko and 1st Ward Council Member Jody Washington. Council Member Washington attended the Feb. MPNO meeting. She has invited neighbors to attend her meetings on the first Saturday of each month at the Allen Neighborhood Center from 10:30 a.m. to Noon.
